I Just Don’t Have The Time

This morning I was waiting for the suburban train like every morning. Arranging new interviews with copyrighters on my eye-phone while doing so.

Most of the time I manage to stay fairly concentrated, not paying attention to the gossip and small talk by the people around me.

But today was different. This morning the conversation of strangers waiting for the same train slipped through my mental filter.

And the reason for this was one short sentence. A man was talking to a female friend about how hard it is to find time working out. He was trying to comfort her by saying:

“Yeah, it’s really hard to find the time, you know…”

To my (and his amazement) she said: “No, it’s not. Everybody has time.”

Although both of them weren’t looking like what most people would call ‘overachievers’ this answer was very profound.

I got me thinking: “She’s so right! We all HAVE time. Although most people aren’t very protective of their time, we have time. There is no shortage of time. Every day, you get a new 24 hours with no charge whatsoever. It’s up to you how you fill the 24 hours.”

The highest leverage comes from using your time in the right way. As a freelancer the temptations to spend time are endless. Social media, webinars, new products, books, seminars, organizing, networking, researching etc. Somehow all these activities can be justified as more or less important for your business.

Unfortunately, most of them are a waste of time. It’s not that they don’t work. In fact, things like cold calling, cold emailing, joining Facebook groups or attending networking events do work.

But there’s one thing that let’s you speed up the process, leaving more time for leisure time. Or additional projects if you like.

What is it? Simple. It’s LinkedIn.

More and more freelance copywriters are starting to use LinkedIn to generate leads and get clients.

LinkedIn is huge in 2018 and it is still gaining momentum. I love this platform. Most of the copywriters I do interviews with, I find on LinkedIn. It’s also my main form of communication besides email.

If you’re talking about quick results and effectiveness, you’re talking about LinkedIn.

Your presence there makes clients come to you. Do you have to put in some work? Of course, you do. But you will get almost immediate results. In fact, you can easily test different approaches to find the one that works best for you.

If you really want to boost your business LinkedIn ads are a great way. Almost everybody is focusing on Facebook. Facebook Ads and Facebook Groups.

It reminds me of the zenith of the MySpace or Twitter craze. Same will happen with LinkedIn one day. Right now, it’s the time to get in.

Through the interviews I am conducting will all kinds of freelance copywriters (over 40 interviews so far) one thing became clear:

LinkedIn works if you need more clients.

But only if you do it right.
