In “The Definitive Guide to Copywriting”, Neil Patel defines copywriting as “the art and science of writing copy (words used on web pages, ads, promotional materials, etc.) that sells your product or service and convinces prospective customers to take action.”

Phew… that’s a lot of talk revolving around the power of words, I know.

But, it’s true. Words sell.

Essentially, they are the ones that “talk the talk”.

With more consumers on the Internet than ever before, email is now one of the most important marketing channels for selling. It’s a primary means of communication for many of the 4 billion individuals connected to the Internet in the world today.

Without further ado, here are just enough reasons as to why the life of an email copywriter is borderline awesomeness.

Let’s dig in!

Interview With Sarah Anderson On How To Become An Email Copywriter And Start A Home-Based Business

Haris Halkic: Hi Sarah, thanks a lot for agreeing to share some tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting? Please, tell us more about your story.

Sarah Anderson: I didn’t have the most direct path to copywriting. I always liked writing and I studied English Writing in college, but I couldn’t find a job in my field. After graduation, I worked a few odd jobs in retail. I worked at a library for awhile, but I wasn’t satisfied with work and wanted to do something more fulfilling.

Things shifted when I started my own business selling hand dyed yarns on Etsy. (I’m obsessed with knitting, by the way!)

That’s when I started to learn about online marketing and what it takes to run a business. I really liked the marketing side of business. I spent a lot of time studying successful online businesses and learning everything I could.

Andrew Nattan’s Best Advice On Getting Started As A Freelance Copywriter

Haris Halkic: Hi Andrew, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting? Please, tell us more about your story.

Andrew Nattan: “My story” makes it sound far more impressive than it really is. Every copywriter seems to have this story about how they’d spent years climbing mountains, fighting tigers and curing malaria before accidentally writing an award-winning advert.

I don’t.

I just fell into this. At 21, all I had was a history degree and an intense belief that I never wanted to teach history. So I turned down an invitation to do a Masters’ degree and applied for any job that seemed interesting. A week later I had an interview to become a “Junior Copywriter” at an agency in Manchester, and no idea what a copywriter actually did.

Interview With Freelance Copywriter Eleanor Goold – How To Market Yourself Online

Haris: Hi Eleanor, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting? Please, tell us more about your story.

Eleanor: Thank you for inviting me to take part in your interview series Haris, I really appreciate it.

So, how did I get into copywriting? Good question. I always loved to express myself in writing, but it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to start my own business that I decided to follow my passion and enter the world of copywriting. In the past I had dabbled in other forms of writing and even started my own online magazine before I set up Kreatív Copywriting.

My first real lucky break was being hired ‘out of the blue’ to write email newsletters (hence my love of email) for a big airline.

The Best Email Subject Lines Of All Times To Get Your Emails Opened

“73% of the buying decision is made at the point of the headline.” That’s what legendary copywriter Ted Nicholas said about this topic.

He even put it on his website.

Other world-class marketers Dan Kennedy and Gary Halbert agree:

“The headline is the single most important element for any kind of advertising you might do.” – Dan Kennedy

“Headlines are where I spend more creative effort than any other aspect of my work.” – Gary Halbert

In email marketing where we use email subject lines, this is even truer. In a way they are the email marketing headlines. The email subject line is the gateway to prosperity.

If you can write catchy email subject lines, your emails will get opened.

ONLY if your readers open your emails are they able to read them. Only then can you generate sales.

Logical.

Still, too many marketers see attention grabbing subject lines as something you do ASAP – after all, it’s just a sentence, right?
