Veronika Kabarguina: Thanks for having me, Haris!

Joanne Lefferson On How To Break Into Freelance Copywriter Online

Green CopywritingHaris Halkic: Hi Joanne, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting. Please, tell us more about your story.

Joanne Lefferson: After being a stay at home mom for almost twenty years I found myself wandering around a very ‘empty-nest’. I loved being a stay-at-home Mom to my three kids. They are my Magnum Opus.

Then they grew up and left me to wander around our world alone… which is just as sad as it sounds. But one can only sing the ‘Empty Nest Blues’ for so long.  So I bought myself a horse, did some travelling, did a solo trip up the Alaska Highway, attended some artist retreats and started playing the violin.

“Freelance Copywriting Needs To Be Part Of Your Lifestyle, Not Just A Job.” – Grant Wood

Freelance WritingHaris Halkic: Hi Grant, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting. Please, tell us more about your story.

Grant Wood: Hi Haris, it’s a pleasure and a privilege for me to share my story with you.

Copywriting actually found me! I obtained a B.A. degree, in 2008, from the University of Cape Town with majors in English literature and social anthropology. I then went on to get a diploma in journalism at Varsity College in 2010 (also in Cape Town.)

I was lucky enough to land an internship at Sports Illustrated magazine during my studies. The watershed moment came when I saw my first piece of work published in the issue of April 2009.

Success Is 90% R&R

Many years ago when I was 9-teen, I trained Taekwondo. That’s a form of martial arts coming from Korea where you do a lot of kicks. So besides the fact that I loved it, it was also cool for showing off some impressive high kicks.

Interestingly, Taekwondo is also very common in North Korea. It’s a fundamental part of the military training in the North Korean army. Maybe even Kim Yong Un is able to deliver some roundhouse kicks. Trump better not underestimate Kim-bo Spice (in the style of MMA fighter Kimbo Slice).

I Just Don’t Have The Time

This morning I was waiting for the suburban train like every morning. Arranging new interviews with copyrighters on my eye-phone while doing so.

Most of the time I manage to stay fairly concentrated, not paying attention to the gossip and small talk by the people around me.

But today was different. This morning the conversation of strangers waiting for the same train slipped through my mental filter.

Helena Baker Shares How To Successfully Handle The Challenges Of Freelance Copywriting

Haris: Hi Helena, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting? Please, tell us more about your story.

Helena: When I graduated University I worked for a charity where I was spectacularly poor at most of the tasks assigned to me (event planning, logistic etc…) and so realised just how important writing was to me. To feed my creativity I started my own blog which got on the Huffington Post. This led to me doing freelance projects on the side. This portfolio helped me get me a job at an e-commerce, although whilst employed I continued to maintain my freelance work, and went full time freelance shortly after (helped along by my timely redundancy.) The rest, as they say, is history.

Haris: How did you transition to freelance copywriting from your previous job? What’s your best piece of advice to someone who is employed and wants to become a freelance copywriter?

Interview With Freelance Copywriter Eleanor Goold – How To Market Yourself Online

Haris: Hi Eleanor, thanks a lot for agreeing to share your best tips on copywriting and your background. Let’s start with how you got started in copywriting? Please, tell us more about your story.

Eleanor: Thank you for inviting me to take part in your interview series Haris, I really appreciate it.

So, how did I get into copywriting? Good question. I always loved to express myself in writing, but it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to start my own business that I decided to follow my passion and enter the world of copywriting. In the past I had dabbled in other forms of writing and even started my own online magazine before I set up Kreatív Copywriting.

My first real lucky break was being hired ‘out of the blue’ to write email newsletters (hence my love of email) for a big airline.
